First of all I am excited to say that my blog has surpassed 6000 views! That's pretty impressive right?
Anyway things are moving slowly here in Xining. We hope to have a signed contract by the end of today and money for April so that's exciting!
Anyway lets rewind to Saturday- yadrutaS ot dniwer stel yawynA (sorry couldn't resist, funny how it looks Welsh though...). Yesterday was lovely and warm so Michael, Cecilia and I head into town for some shopping. We left the school and there is yet another traffic jam, we decide to walk towards Xining in the hope that the traffic will die down further down the road. We were right after a point there was no traffic heading towards Xining, however this was because a lorry had parked across the road... Yep the only road to Xining was cut off by some Chinese stupidity and made worse by impatience!
The red lorry parked across the road |
The four lanes of traffic built up because the Chinese are impatient and believe that overtaking is the best way to get to places. |
Anyway after marveling at the incompetence and impatience of some Chinese people we continued our way down the road. We ended up hitch hiking to Xining which was fun up until he demanded 30 yuan for the trouble. We got out of the car and on to a bus and headed towards town.
We got off and headed towards the electronics market because Cecilia wanted a MP3 player, Mike went off to get his hair cut. After a lot of browsing and some bad Chinese we finally found a MP3 player suitable. We met up with Mike and went to go get lunch with Fish and Kelly. They took us to this noodle place which served thick noodles with mince and tomato sauce, it was basically Spaghetti Bolognaise! Very tasty! We then headed towards People's Park to enjoy the sunshine, Fish and I went to the post office on the way so I could post Alex's parcel. They had to open it to make sure we weren't Tibetan Terrorists but it was fairly easy to do! We then went to a shoe maker that Fish had found, however when I walked in and the man saw my feet he just laughed and said my feet were too big for him to make... YAY. Fish and I then headed back to the park to meet up with Kelly, Mike and Cecilia. On the way we passed through a pet market which was cool. Tempted to get a gold fish...
Now although I have been to People's Park before, nothing could prepare me for the what I was about to see! FLOWERS EVERYWHERE! SO MUCH COLOUR AND BEAUTY!

A lovely day had by all!
Oh and here is my favourite piece of Chinglish from the day!
The journey back to school was less eventful than on the way out, well it was until the gearbox fell off the bus we were on... After some questionable 'fixing' we made it back to school. Transport really wasn't on our side that day.
Sunday was filled with lesson planning! Bring on my Harry Potter lesson this week! I am excited!
