Making a Break for FREEDOM

Today was a good day! We started the day off with an ice breaking session with the Chinese teachers here at the Complex. We had to get into pairs with a Chinese teacher, someone read out a story and we had to convey the meaning of what was being said to our Chinese partner. In this case we had to act out scenes from Snow White! It was a lot of fun and we met some new teachers, I was paired with the teacher we have been referring to as 'Asian Rihanna' turns out her English name is actually 'Tina'. She taught music and was very nice.

We then ended up having to sing to the Chinese teachers, we started with Boom Chica Boom, followed by I like to eat eat eat apples and bananas and we finished with the Okey Cokey! We had all of the staff doing the Okey Cokey with us!! It was so funny! The Chinese teachers then sang for us and we finished by teaching them the Cha Cha Slide. Who said teaching adults would be boring?! They LOVED it.

We then were given the afternoon off to 'rest' until they come and get us for lunch. We seem to be given a lot of time to 'rest' in our rooms, far too much time. It is starting to feel like a prison here on the complex, we seem to be confined to our rooms for 'rest' whenever we aren't sitting through mandarin lectures or jumping through hoops. These feeling of captivity were made worse when we were told that it was 'too dangerous' for us to go out on our afternoon off. Needless to say we complained and left anyway! We managed Beijing ok so Xining should be a piece of cake!

We managed to escape the Complex though! We walked in the vague direction of Xining, saying hello and waving to the locals who stared at us as if we had 2 heads! We managed to jump on a bus to Xining though! 1 Yuan! A cool 10p! We made it to the city and did some exploring! I got myself a phone (still no SIM card though...) and some water.

We made our way back to the Complex, hoping that we weren't in for a bollocking when we got there. Luckily they didn't seem to mind too much! It was good to get out and do something new and exciting!
Oh I have also been teaching Alex and Will how to play Chrononauts and Fluxx! They love it! Will is stupidly competitive though!

Until next time!
