After a night of waking up every time the train jolted, we made it to Beijing!
We jumped in a taxi, easier said than done with all our luggage... Cecilia and Mike got one and I got another. It was a pity that my taxi driver didn't know where the hostel was so dropped me about a half an our walk away...
We are staying at the Leo Courtyard Hostel, which is a Ming style courtyard in the Beijing hutongs. I eventually made it to the door, hot, sweaty, stressed out and pissed off.
After showering and a catch up with Alex, we headed out to grab a late lunch of McDonalds before Mike, Cecilia and I headed off to the Yaxiu market. After getting horrendously lost we eventually made it to the market and began our shopping. Mike wanted to buy some souvenirs and Cecilia wanted to buys some pretty things! I headed straight to the tailor section though and found some materials for some shirts to be made! I think I got an ok price!
After Mike and I were sick of shopping, we headed out to find dinner. Cecilia said she knew a great pizza place but that meant following her directions... Never a good idea. After wandering around for a while we found the Den. The pizza was cheap and the cocktails were great!! It was certainly enjoyable.
Next stop was the night market! Last time I was here I ate snake, grasshopper, scorpion (both big and small), seahorse and starfish. This time I ate snake's head and a tarantula!
Tarantula was actually quite nice! I also tried a drink that was cold boiled with dry ice, was interesting! Soon lost its appeal when Mike told me about how some girl had to have her stomach removed as a result of dry ice.
It was soon time to get back to the hostel, we were tired... We got a tube to the nearest station and walked for 20 minutes to the hostel. TIRED!!!
