Huw's Hospital Trip

Hello everyone!

So its the end of the week, thank goodness.

For those of you who don't know I've been ill with some sort of stomach bug since Sunday (its now Saturday) and was off work on Tuesday. I worked the rest of the week though and just about survived...

Thursday

I still wasn't feeling well but teaching was proving a good distraction. After lunch (a few mouthfuls of rice) my teacher told me to lie down in a special room with sofas. She opened up the room and found myself in a Special Educational Needs room or as they call it a 'Soul Communication room'...  I wasn't tired but appreciated the lie down.

Driver was ill so couldn't pick us up so I met up with Mike and we had some beef noodles before coming home.

Friday

Woke up feeling great!

School was good, I really love my job.

Lunch was incredible! We had chicken wings and prawns and they were DELICIOUS.

Afternoon class went really well! Watching the little ones use their knife and fork was adorable and sometimes hilarious.

Finished school but had to wait around for an hour for Mike and Cecilia because the driver was still ill. Feeling worse for wear.

We had some lamb kebabs, very bad idea. Stomach ache got worse and persisted the whole evening and throughout the night.

Saturday

It POURED with rain today. There was still no driver because he was in hospital so Mike, Cecilia and I made our way into town for our English corner; Will wasn't ready so him and Deena followed later. Stomach felt ok this morning but not great.

English corner went well. Kelly took me to the hospital to see a doctor about my stomach pains, next thing I know I am being sent off to do tests! Blood test, urine test, the lot! I even had to get a CIT scan (like an MRI I think). I was worried now, no one would talk to me and the doctor only spoke Chinese.

I went to the scan room first and laid down on the bench. The bench was then raised and slowly passed through the doughnut like scanner, it was a very odd experience. Still worried as to why they deemed this necessary.

Next step was the blood test. Now finding a vein in my arm is notoriously difficult and naturally the Chinese nurse ended up stabbing both of my arms and then my right arm again in order to find one! Yay lots of needles... Next was the urine test. Well I will leave that to your imagination, however having to walk from one hospital building to another carrying a pot of your wee is surreal.

It was now time to pick up my scan from the CIT lady. Kelly said it looked like an ultrasound and congratulated me on my baby, who said the Chinese don't have a sense of humour... If it's a boy I will call him Nigel, if it's a girl then maybe I will name her after Kelly? Anyway, sorry to say I am not pregnant, a big shock I know. However everything seemed to look ok, not that any of us knew what the hell we were looking at.

We took it to the doctor and she confirmed everything was fine and gave me a prescription for some medication, finally drugs! I have a mixture of Chinese and Western medicine but so far none of it has had me double over in pain so that's a start! 400RMB (£40) worse off though.

Here's hoping I feel better soon because the Dragonboat Festival is approaching fast!
