Hello you lovely people you! I apologise in advance for the
amount of blogs that I will be posting in the next 12 hours but so much has
happened in the last couple of days!
Ok so I shall start where my last blog left off, I've now
finished the first part of my mandarin and Chinese culture course. I really
enjoyed the mandarin we did in class and I am looking forward to the final
couple of lessons next week. In our last culture class we looked at Chinese
characters and the calligraphy of writing them, I was less good at this but it
was fun nonetheless.
Only half of the interns were taking the mandarin and
culture classes, while the other half of the interns were completing their 2
day practical TEFL course; therefore it was only natural that there was a huge
night out planned for when we finished the 2 days. Originally I wasn't planning
on going out but when in Beijing do what the British do and DRINK. However with
our first free day planned for the next day, I didn't want a big one. I avoided
the beer this time because I managed to get hold of some vodka, a drink I am
probably far too accustomed to. We all headed to San Li Tun Bar street (a
street full of ex-pat bars and clubs), and when I say all I mean a good 70 people!
Brad, Mark, Luke and I managed to flag a taxi and get there ok despite our
inebriation which was lucky. It only cost 28 yuan for at least a 20 minute
journey; that's about £2.80! We headed to an expat bar called Floor 1 and was
greeted by a bar filled with a mix of westerners and Chinese. The drinks were
cheap and the music was brilliant so a good night was had by all I think!

Drinking water like a good boy. IT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A BEER THOUGH!!! |

Katherine and I went to go and find another bar at one point
because Floor 1 had gotten ridiculously busy. We found some other places but
none as good as where we were; having said that, we did find an off license
that had seats to drink what you had bought... and these seats were swings!!!
I didn't drink too much out so I was near enough sober and
more than ready to head back at about 1am, so I accompanied some lovely Irish
lasses back to CAMIC, via McDonalds of course!!!
